Abstract
The emergency units are an important element in the health care network. The nursing team needs to be properly dimensioned, in order to ensure a high-class assistance. Goal: Describe the nursing team dimensioning at the Referred Emergency Unit (REU). Method: Experience report based on the REU's nursing dimensioning calculation, using the Coren-SP's methodology to dimension special units. The first study step was the identification of service places; subsequently, the chart with station operation times and functional sites definition was filled in. Finally, the proposed formula was applied, in which the staff plan is equal to the Marinho's Constant, multiplied by the total functional sites (QP=KMxTSF), the Marinho's Constant is the division of the work time by the workweek, multiplied by the technical security index (TSI) adopted by the institution (KM=PT/JSTxIST). Result: Nine workstations were identified. The unit operates 24/7. Then, 174 functional nurse sites and 444 nursing technician sites were obtained. The work time is six hours and the workweek is 30 hours/week. The 15% TSI adopted by the institution resulted in 40 nurses and 102 nursing technicians. Discussion: The dimensioning tool proven to be important to help on managing, since it enables staff quantity adaptation and a skilled nursing assistance. However, certain subjectivity on the functional site definition and number of necessary professionals to cover workstations was identified. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
