First aid for children: preparation of a training guidebook

Abstract

The urgency and emergency situations may occur anywhere outside the hospital environment, and the first aid needs to be instituted early. This work's goal is to develop a first-aid guidebook, which contributes to train children in the initial service on urgencies and emergencies. A first-aid guidebook was developed in printed and electronic version, with urgency and emergency content, in a playful language, easy to be understood by children. The guidebook was prepared with the main emergency situations, using as reference a guidebook called Prevenção de Acidentes na Infância [Accident Prevention in Childhood], developed by DEdIC in 2003. The same characters from the same story was used, as well as the graphic project, with change of scenarios and oriented to situations requiring first aid. After text and scenario definition, a graphic designer makes the art and final format in printed and digital version. It is expected to extend and promote the need of training and education in emergency at school, for children, with this guidebook being part of a study that will improve training instruments and techniques in emergencies for children. It is extremely important the vast training of children and teenagers at schools about the approach of basic first-aid notions.
