Abstract

Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by recurring collapses on the pharyngeal region during sleep, resulting in significant decrease of the airflow. The respiratory events trigger intermitent disorders of blood gases and may lead to a sympathetic system activation. The Project "Cuide-se" [Take Care of Yourself] run across the University units, identifying, searching information from the clinical history of each unit's employees, through the blood pressure measurement, and information provided by Labor Medicine. In this group, the Berlin Scale questionnaires were applied to screen subjects with Snore and OSAS and the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). Anthropometric data will also be collected, such as weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI), abdominal and cervical circumference, palate type assessment, modified Mallampatti Rating, tonsils, Angle Rating, facial profile and gender assessment. The patients selected will be referred to Otolaringological examination, polysomnography examination request and treatment selection: intraoral jaw progress devices, Positive Air Pressure Device, surgical therapy and/or combination of more than one therapy type. After one year of patient adhesion to therapies, they will be reassessed and compared with the initial data. There was good acceptance on the OSAS investigation on the patient group with SAH, unprecedented fact in the groups until the present time; by patients selected for OSAS confirmation examination, the PSG, there was confirmation of pathology suspicion, and all patients were provided with adequate treatment.
