Abstract

UEC's Herbarium, founded in 1974 and considered Bona-Fide Depositary since 2004, is part of the INCT (Virtual Fungi and Flora Herbarium), whose mission is to provide information with quality for public access, available online in the Virtual Herbarium Project (http://inct.splink.org.br/) from the Environmental Information Reference Center - CRIA. The digitalization process has been implemented in the herbarium and makes the information available for a diversified audience. This is an essential procedure for science progress, since it speeds up the exchange of information in botany and similar sciences, and make easier the collection management, in addition to help on the collection preservation. There are 171,029 computerized specimens by the BRAHMS (Botanical Research and Herbarium Management System) program and 83,609 images available online and more than 189,000 exsiccates in the archive. Given the challenge of managing the exchange of various materials, both from UEC Herbarium and other collections, a system was created to automate, streamline and improve the control of these transactions. The system from Biology Institute, developed within INTRANET, helps on meeting the deadlines for loans, returns and loan extensions, both internal and internal and loans to professors and students from the Biology Institute. The system enabled greater agility in the process of data consultation, both for employees and herbarium users. The possibility of digital access to archive and control of internal and external transactions is a great progress for the UEC Herbarium promotion and operation, optimizing and enabling the daily processes.
