COCEN's library system: interdisciplinarity, knowledge and scientific promotion

Abstract

Summary The Interdisciplinary Research and Teaching Hubs and Centers were implemented at UNICAMP with the purpose of enabling cultural, scientific and technological investigations with interdisciplinary characteristics. Since 1998, 21 authorities are governed by Unicamp's Interdisciplinary Hubs and Centers Coordination (COCEN). We count on 08 implemented Libraries, to contribute with the knowledge promotion and their archives are resulting from each Center and Hub's specificities and from the interdisciplinary characteristics in which they are constituted. This study aimed to know Cocen's library potential in planning, development and action in activities of science and technology promotion/popularization and their insertion on Unicamp's Library System. The main purpose of the scientific promotion is the social knowledge sharing, that is, the ability to give to the general audience the scientific and technological knowledge, as well as its culture, its values, assumptions and operation, which, for a long time was pulled away, given the growing development and specialization of the scientific affairs. At the Centers and Hubs, researchers, specialists, graduation and post-graduation students, associated professors from Brazilian and foreign universities can be found, as well as the general community, mobilized by the different fields in which these authorities act and by the different action ways, and which, as it may be checked, are constituted in these Centers and Hubs' library users. The great challenge is the action on Knowledge Promotion, since the libraries may be appointed as scientific and cultural spaces, which the society uses to access scientific information.
