Abstract
Incentives to scientific production and open access to information have stimulating Brazil's scientific publication growth. However, at the same time, the scientific publication, which is essential part of the knowledge production process, is in a moment of great changes and strong pressure for insertion in the international scenario. This work purpose is to detail the actions and changes that RDBCI: Information Science and Library Science Digital Journal, linked to UNICAMP's Library System (SBU), has come through for its internationalization and professionalization, which are skills desired by national scientific journals. In this regard, we will discuss, through survey, the current situation of scientific journals from the Information Science and Library Science fields, and the impact of these journals on the community. This RDBCI experience during 14 years of existence can be the path of other field journals or even journals from other fields, such as journals that are part of UNICAMP's Scientific Electronic Journal Site. It is concluded that, in order to meet the requirements from the national scientific community, and meet the requirements established by assessing authorities, it is necessary for the journal to play its role, giving visibility to its contents, both in mother language (Portuguese) and in English.
