Abstract

The underlying theme of this work is the transition from capitalism to socialism in Cuba. To this end, Pericás carries out an accurate study of the island's economic history and reconstructs the economic debate developed in that country during the 1960s, paying special attention to the conceptions and proposals of the guerrilla leader Ernesto Che Guevara. To characterize the Cuban economic debate, Pericás explores the complex and dynamic picture of the correlation of forces existing in Cuba. The dependent nature of the Cuban economy in relation to the USA would have been, according to the author, an obstacle to the development of productive forces of the island.
