Balance of the debate: the transition from feudalism to capitalism

Abstract

The book Balance of debate: the transition from feudalism to capitalism brings to light Eduardo Mariutti's master's thesis, research carried out at the Unicamp Institute of Economics. As the title itself denotes, the author presents us with an overview of the debate about the transition from feudalism to capitalism that was fought in the 1950s, mainly by Maurice Dobb and Paul Sweezy. The chapters are arranged in three parts. In the first, the author presents the theses on transition defended by Dobb and Sweezy and makes a comparison between them. On Monday part, the author captures the so-called Brenner debate, which took place in the 70s, following the Dobb/Sweezy controversy.
