Abstract
Contrary to the “retreating intellectuals” (J. Petras), who today deny Marxism to resurrect legal-institutional theories, whose ineffectiveness for the emancipation of work was evidenced by the work of Marx – hence the very need to decree its overcoming or death –, in November 1999, bringing together professors and researchers from twelve states in Brazil, the Center for Marxist Studies (Cemarx) at Unicamp promoted the “I Colóquio Marx and Engels”, which resulted in this book – The theoretical work of Marx: current affairs, problems and interpretations. The volume, composed of five chapters derived from the Colloquium round tables, also contains an annex with summaries of most of the communications presented.
