Abstract
The article deals with the theoretical issues concerning aesthetical representation in contemporary cultural goods, recurring particularly to two examples: the books of Paulo Lins, Cidade de Deus and Dráuzio Varella, Estação Carandiru, both taken in dialogue the films which originated from them. The text interrogates the role and the function of the forms of representation violence seen in the books and in the films, trying to insert this in the broader framework of a history of the represent of violence in the Brazilian literature.
