Abstract
The collection Nelson Werneck Sodré: entre o saber e a pena, organized by Paulo Cunha and Fátima Cabral, which consolidates the testimonies and analyzes of the VIII Jornada de Ciências Sociais da FFC da UNESP, in Marília, São Paulo, deserves mention and salute. It was a pioneering initiative in the academic recognition of the importance of Sodré's work, comprised of 56 books and 3 thousand articles, of
and values widely recognized, with intensely controversial content, but to which the Brazilian university had been largely indifferent, partly unilaterally critical.
