Abstract

Daniel Bensaïd died in combat on January 12th. He participated in an advanced battlefront in the war against capital, being a prominent figure in the efforts to build the New Anticapitalist Party in France, officially created in January 2009. He was also one of the founders of the most recent printed and electronic versions of the Contretemps magazine, which currently seeks to be an intellectual instrument in the attempt to renew the strategies of the French revolutionary left. These were the last movements of a life entirely guided by the conviction in socialist militancy, since the end of the 1960s, when Bensaïd was already among the sharp youthful critics of the status quo in the wave of protest in the French May 68.
