Abstract

We are faced with an open book, decidedly incomplete, capable of provoking doubts and criticism. For this reason alone, we could salute the undertaking of Unicamp professor, Álvaro Bianchi. His book, very well written and unusually rigorous, is an invitation to read the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci. Bianchi begins with a quick and well-informed exposition of the structure and trajectory of the Prison Notebooks. It talks about its reception in Europe and Brazil, shows how much potential there is for its continuous reinterpretation in Latin America (in a happy finding about how certain concepts, such as passive revolution, inspired analyzes of our history, with nothing similar occurring in Old world). Bianchi also makes an astute critique of the new Brazilian edition of Gramsci's texts without, however, failing to welcome the positive aspects of the new editorial initiative.
