Abstract

The outbreak of the crisis of world capitalism, if, for many, it was a surprise, for the participants of the Marx and Engels Colloquium it had long been announced. Arising amidst a situation of almost absolute predominance of neoliberal ideas, the Center for Marxist Studies at Unicamp (Cemarx/Unicamp) courageously carried out as an act of resistance to neoliberal thought the 1st Marx and Engels Colloquium, in 1999. The success of the 1st Colloquium was followed by three more versions, in 2001, 2003 and 2005, with the latter becoming an international event.
