Abstract

Thanks to the eminent historian Moniz Bandeira, this classic of historical materialism published for the first time in 1908 is finally available in Portuguese. In his preface, the translator recalls that Kautsky was the legatee of Marx and Engels and the main theoretician of the Second International. Lenin, despite denouncing him as a “renegade”, recognizes that his works as a Marxist historian “will remain a lasting heritage of the proletariat”.
