Abstract

The book organized by Márcio Bilharinho Naves, The discreet charm of bourgeois law: essays on Pashukanis, offers the opportunity for the Brazilian public to deepen knowledge and debate about the work of this Russian jurist, who is considered by several researchers as the author of the main contribution theory of Marxism in this field. In addition to having a biography and bibliography, the collection is divided into three other parts: in the first, Silvia Alapanian, Alysson Leandro Mascaro and Celso
Naoto Kashiura Júnior present Pashukanis' central theses, focusing on his main work The general theory of law and Marxism, from 1924; in the second, the reader has access to two articles, unpublished in Brazil, by Steve Redhead and Roger Cotterrell, which raise some criticisms of Pashukanis' analysis and seek to indicate some of its limits, and to the respective replies by Marcio Naves and Celso Kashiura to these authors; in the third, a text, also unpublished in the country, by Pashukanis himself on law and socialism is published.
