Abstract

The article outlines a class interpretation of Marxist political economy (MPE). It examines four key aspects of MPE: method, value, class, and the implications of value theory for the analysis of selected aspects of contemporary capitalism, including competition, the international diffusion of capitalism, globalisation, crisis theory, the analysis of social classes, and the environment. The article argues that MPE can be extremely relevant, especially when it focuses on the identification and the analysis of the tendencies, counter-tendencies and historical contingencies, whose interaction shapes the concrete.
