Abstract
In Book I of Marx’s Capital, with the help of the “collective labourer”, often is put under question the existence of the proletariat, a social class distinct from the many wage earners by its specific social function: to transform nature in the means of production
and subsistence. Marx, with the concept of “collective labourer” would have put under the same and only class (the labourers or workers) the totality of the wage earners. This article argues that this concept of “collective labourer” does not exist in Book I and it is the result of the political and ideological necessities both of Stalinism and Social-democracy.
