Abstract

In Brazil and capital-imperialism, Virgínia Fontes seeks to understand the current phase of development of Brazilian capitalism. The author argues that the increase in the concentration of capital and the internationalization of Brazilian companies led the country to join, albeit in a subordinate position, the group of imperialist countries. I will present the content of the publication to the reader and, at the end, make a brief critical comment. The 384-page book aims to present the concept of “capital-imperialism” and the role of the Brazilian State in the contemporary international scenario. To do this, it is divided into three parts. In the first, the author seeks to provide a theoretical review of the contributions of Marx, Lenin and Gramsci on the dynamics of capital and imperialism. In the second, she develops an analysis of the current phase of capitalism, which she calls capital-imperialism. And finally, an analysis
of class relations in Brazil in recent decades, from the fourth to the seventh chapter.
