Interpretations of the Grundrisse notion of “general intellect”

Abstract

As is known, Marx used the term “general intellect” in English only once throughout his work, in an original written basically in German. The use of this term – and also of the synonyms “social brain” and “social intelligence” – in such an extensive work would not have attracted exceptional attention were it not for the expository context in which it appears: the anticipation of what will happen with the development of the mode of production of large industry.
