Abstract
This book, a revised edition of the author's doctoral thesis, defended at the Fluminense Federal University, is divided into two parts: a theoretical chapter on the conceptualization of Bonapartism and eight historiographical chapters on the various Brazilian regimes and governments from the 1930 Revolution to the Civil-military coup of 1964, seen as Bonapartite or semi-Bonapartic in nature. The work seeks to combine theoretical elaboration and empirical investigation, avoiding incurring in a framework of “random” descriptions.
