The middle class: Rise and decline

Abstract

The book by Portuguese sociologist Elísio Estanque makes a great contribution to the discussion about the middle class in times of crisis; Even though the author starts from the analysis of the situation of the middle class in Portugal, a country that is at the heart of the European economic crisis, we cannot close our eyes to the increasingly present possibility of experiencing in the Brazilian middle class the problems experienced by the Portuguese and Europeans in general.
