Abstract

As we approach the end of a millennium, it seems that we suffer from an excess of negative historical verdicts which, in turn, signal a lack of critical rigor in the evaluation of modern developments. This observation has its greatest relevance when considering the post-mortem given to modernism, which now circulates endlessly in academia and in the world of arts. A revealing example of this press devoted to presenting modernism as everything can be found, for example, in the writings (see on other aspects) of the art critic Thomas McEvilley.
