Abstract

The work Latin American Dependent Capitalism, by Vânia Bambirra, has only recently reached a Brazilian audience, forty years after its original publication in Spanish and after traveling to several countries. Recognized by Latin American readers as one of the formulators of dependency theory, in its Marxist aspect, Bambirra dedicated herself, during her academic career and political activism, to the study of Latin American dependency, to the analysis of political struggles in Latin America in the 1960s and 1970s and reflection on the issue of the transition to socialism.
