Abstract

Indigenous communities in Latin America are in the center of the struggle in defense of the environment. Perform local mobilizations in defense of rivers and forests against the multinational oil and mining companies. They also propose an alternative way of life to the globalized neoliberal capitalism. These struggles are mostly indigenous but they occur often in alliance with landless peasants, environmentalists, socialists, Christian base communities, with the support of trade unions and left parties.
