Abstract
In Rebel Cities, David Harvey brings to social theory his analysis of the role of cities in social transformation based on the contradictions of urbanization and anti-capitalist movements. Timely analysis after the cycle of struggles and occupations that began in 2011 in North Africa, with the overthrow of dictatorships in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen, and which expanded to Europe, with occupations and strikes in Greece and Spain and revolts in the suburbs of London; noticeable in the student movement on the streets of Santiago, Chile; at Occupy Wall Street in New York and during the struggle in Brazil during the tariff revolt in 2013.
