Abstract
The composition of capital is one of the fundamental categories in the investigation that Marx carries out on the main tendencies of capitalist production. Despite this importance, its use has been marked by a large conceptual vagueness. While approaching the composition of capital from the double point of view “of value” and “of material”, Marx refers to the technical composition, the value composition and the organic composition. However, there is no consensus among interpreters regarding the nature of the relationship between the latter two. The objective of this article is to present a proposal of interpretation that seeks to preserve the essence of Marx’s approach on this topic. At the same time, the article attempts to show the shortcomings of some of the alternative interpretations.
