Abstract
Chapters on the history of communists in Brazil was organized by Carlos Zacarias de Sena Jr., professor at UFBA. The book is the result of a seminar that took place in 2012, based on a collaboration between public universities in Bahia, around the ninety years since the founding of the PCB. Divided into three chronologically oriented parts, its time frame goes from the origins of the PCB to the 1950s; only one article goes beyond this period. The parts of the book are “From the origins to the National Liberation Alliance”, “Resistance and legality” and “From the manifesto of January 1948 to the declaration of March 1958 and beyond”. A plurality of themes and approaches relating to the history of the PCB stand out – as it is not limited to the more traditional interpretation, focused on the positions of the national leadership and biographies of prominent characters –, including reflections on the international centers of the communist movement referenced in Moscow , the not always easy paths to reception and application of positions by the grassroots and the party's performance in Bahia, a region that has been little studied.
