Abstract

Joana Salém Vasconcelos' book contributes to an open task for Latin American organic intellectuality: consolidating critical analyzes on topics of political relevance, guided by the historical need to overcome underdevelopment. It is located in the antithesis of the dominant academic trend in Brazil and elsewhere, in which the practice of a cultural history detached from the structural issues that perpetuate dependence, including intellectual dependence, prevails. By referencing her analysis in authors such as Celso Furtado and Florestan Fernandes, the author advocates her own thinking for her own problems, distancing herself from cultural colonialism.
