Abstract
It is a commonplace within biographical literature to show how a character is a man or woman of his time or to try to explain the reasons why this character was ahead of him. In the case of Walter Benjamin, however, it is the opposite: what is at stake is not the relationship between an author and his time, but time with an author. In other words, could it be that the first half of the 20th century, in which he lived, and the beginning of the 21st century, in which we live,
Are they up to Walter Benjamin? History, put in the dock by his work, has not yet satisfactorily answered this question.
