Abstract

John Smith's book is mandatory reading in the debate on imperialism at the beginning of this century, due to its theoretical dimension – even if one disagrees with the centrality of the idea of super-exploitation – and its rich research into understanding changes in the international division of labor. Another relevant aspect is the denunciation of working conditions in countries in the global South. The exhibition begins with the collapse of Rana Plaza in 2013, a building in Bangladesh where supply factories linked to international clothing brands operated, a tragedy responsible for the deaths of more than a thousand workers, the majority of whom were women.
