Abstract
The Color of Modernity: São Paulo and the Making of Race and Nation in Brazil, a book by renowned North American historian Barbara Weinstein, professor at New York University, studies the ideology of the São Paulo oligarchy in the context of the 1932 military uprising and the use of memory of this uprising in subsequent decades. The edition is exquisite, well revised and with a useful name index at the end.
