Abstract

One of the points of interest in the book by George C. Comninel, professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of York, is that it tries to take into account – even if through the indirect route of the works of T. Carver and D. Blank – the new results of research on German Ideology (in 2017 the definitive version of this text was released in MEGA-2 I/5) regarding historical materialism. In this sense, it is appropriate to clarify the somewhat misleading title at the outset. Precisely this issue reflects, in a more profound way, the type of work we are dealing with. We have before us neither a strictly theoretical nor a historical book; rather, the concern that runs through the chapters is to present the general lines of historical materialism; concern, it is worth highlighting right away, similar to that of the book Rethinking the French Revolution (1987) by same author.
