The imaginary book: response to a commentary on Marx, Spinoza and Darwin: Thinkers of Immanence

Abstract

The objective of this writing is to clarify the issues in the aforementioned comment, especially with a view to those readers who are not familiar with my book. The intention here is that such readers feel motivated to come into contact with a reflection that, far from being just mine, involves those who ask themselves how religious thought was possible, who invoke a transcendent meaning for the functionalities they address, gain such strength today. It is in this sense that Marx, Spinoza and Darwin – certainly with immense differences between them – appear as allies for the strengthening of an immanent perspective of analysis, which seeks to decipher the “spirit of the situation without spirit”, in Marx's classic formulation.
