Abstract
This commentary analyses Maurício Vieira Martins’ book Marx, Espinosa and Darwin: thinkers of the immanence. Firstly, the main articulations of the book are briefly presented considering its central problem. Then, certain critics and considerations are succinctly presented in view of the book’s problematic points, but without disregarding their relevance. Mainly, the critical points signalizes the insufficiencies of the author’s apprehension of Espinosa’s thought and particularly point out a failure in the very relevant theoretical articulation concerning the notion of emergence, borrowed by the author from certain tendencies in biology, to
solve the central problem of the absence of teleology in nature and its presence in human and social relations.
