Abstract

Louis Althusser's posthumous work, organized and annotated by G. M. Goshgarian, published in French only in 2014, brilliantly fulfills the role it proposes: introducing non-philosophers to philosophy. However, the determination of who is or is not a philosopher depends, from the beginning, on the position that the reader takes towards philosophy: whether as an active participant or distant from its practice, with or without reason for doing so. In this way, the argument developed advances the discussion of who is a philosopher and who owns the field, what is its function in a given society and how this type of content is produced.
