Abstract
Published at the beginning of 2020, the book Middle classes and politics in Brazil: 1922-2016, by sociologist Adalberto Cardoso, is a relevant contribution to the literature regarding the political action of the middle classes. The work's theme is the decisive political behavior of the middle classes in the crisis situations that span the Vargas era, the Brazilian military dictatorship and the 2016 parliamentary coup. Although it does not rest, centrally, on a Marxist issue, the book opens an important dialogue with research based on Marx's theory. Firstly, through dialogue with an author like Décio Saes, who dedicated himself understand the theoretical status and political activity of the middle classes. Secondly, by presenting pertinent theses about the situation that began with the 2013 demonstrations, went through the 2016 coup and is currently under the Bolsonaro government. The work therefore provides the Marxist public with interesting reflections and theses that can be developed and incorporated.
