Abstract
Karl Marx was a Jew born in Trier, Germany, in March 1818. He was born into a well-educated family, studied at the Universities of Bonn and Berlin, initially planning to become a lawyer and then teach philosophy. But his ideas were too radical for the government. He turned to journalism and eventually dedicated his life to economic reform, dying in London in 1883, after having lived in Germany, Belgium, France and, for the last 35 years of his life, England. In 1867, he published the first volume of his monumental work, Capital.
