Abstract
This article aims to present a commentary on Fredric Jameson’s Marxism. The central objective is to offer an introductory overview of his work, in order to highlight both his main contributions and what specifies and singularizes his work as an effort to update the Marxist tradition, in particular, one of its specific lineages: Western Marxism. To this end, it is intended to rescue some constitutive
elements of Jameson’s theory (such as cultural criticism, the defense of dialectic, totality and utopia), as well as the particular way in which the author combines the Marxist perspective with other interpretative currents, something that many critics consider a recurring mark of current efforts to renew the Marxist tradition, especially after the so-called “crisis of Marxism”. With this, it is expected to contribute both to the understanding of Jameson’s thought, as well as to the characterization of the several Marxisms that were developed in the context of the end of the 20th century.
