Resumo
A presente contribuição inscreve-se no debate sobre a pesquisa de fundamentos explicativos para a dinâmica histórica dos modos de produção, em particular sobre a emergência do capitalismo. Esta questão é estudada no âmbito do debate interno do marxismo analítico. Enquanto Cohen elabora uma teoria da história fundada no desenvolvimento das forças produtivas, completada pela análise de Roemer articulada pela teoria da escolha racional, Brenner propõe uma historiografia mais empírica fundada na racionalidade dos atores. O artigo defende a possibilidade de uma complementaridade entre essas interpretações.
