Resumo
Este artigo trata das noções de temporalidade e performatividade de gênero nos primeiros trabalhos de Butler sobre gênero. Este artigo está dividido em quatro partes. Em primeiro lugar, ele dá conta do papel e da natureza da temporalidade na teoria de performatividade de gênero da Butler. Em segundo, mostra algumas similaridades e conexões entre o papel desempenhado pela temporalidade na teoria de performatividade de gênero da Butler e seu papel na análise de Marx sobre o capital. Em terceiro, levanta algumas críticas na compreensão de Butler sobre a temporalidade e historicidade, dando ênfase, em particular, à ausência de historicização de suas próprias categorias tanto em Gender Trouble quanto em Bodies that Matter. Esse déficit é consequência de um enquadramento epistemológico por meio do qual ela opera, em particular, seu entendimento de práticas e relações
sociais por meio de conceitos da linguística extrapolados de seu contexto teórico. O artigo conclui fazendo referência às análises de Kevin Floyd e Hennessy sobre a formação de identidades sexuais como exemplos de uma historicização frutífera da performatividade de gênero, que ajuda na compreensão do “caráter abstrato” da temporalidade da performatividade de gênero.
