Resumo
Diante da literatura que sugere que as proposições de Marx seriam cegas à questão dos “limites naturais”, Kohei Saito explora, neste artigo, as evidências contrárias que podem ser depreendidas dos cadernos de ciências naturais escritos por aquele autor no fim de sua vida, em relativa concomitância com O Capital. Saito mostra que, com base nesses textos, é possível reconhecer o crescente interesse de Marx por variados temas ecológicos – e, na exposição disso, dá foco especial a dois pontos: primeiro, o continuado estudo que Marx fizera das teses de Liebig sobre a exaustão dos solos; e, segundo, sua investigação dos comentários críticos a tais teses (entre os quais se destaca o de Fraas, com sua teoria da aluvião e a sua defesa de que fatores antropogênicos estão conectados a mudanças climáticas históricas). Com base nesses achados, Saito, por fim, avança o argumento de que,
houvesse Marx completado a crítica à economia política, ele provavelmente daria maior ênfase à “interação metabólica entre humanidade e natureza” como sendo a contradição fundamental do capitalismo.
