Resumo

Neste artigo, Foster e Clark apresentam sua interpretação dos fundamentos ecológicos do pensamento de Karl Marx, dando ênfase à concepção materialista da natureza desse autor (baseada, sobretudo, nas ciências naturais críticas de sua época) e ao papel central que, segundo seu esquema, a contradição entre valor, natureza e trabalho assume tanto na acumulação de capital, quanto na perturbação e na degradação das condições naturais a ela associadas. Expõem ainda, nessa ocasião, sua apreciação crítica de uma linha interpretativa alternativa, a qual, não obstante se apoie no mesmo vocabulário marxiano do metabolismo, avança contra
a ideia de “ruptura metabólica”, uma noção de “metabolismo singular” que Foster e Clark entendem como sociomonista, antidialética e, no limite, antiecológica.
