Resumo

Este artigo apresenta o debate sobre a presença do leão em território grego, tomado como fonte a história de Polidamas de Escotusa, lutador de pancrácio cujas proezas foram eternizadas em texto e imagem. A partir de breve exame a respeito dos episódios da vida de Polidamas, será argumentado que não há base documental suficiente para apresentá-los como argumento irrefragável em favor da presença do leão como espécie autóctone na Grécia.
